The labour union leaders in Ondo State
The labour union leaders in Ondo State on Thursday stormed the office of the Accountant-General of the state to protest against the alleged non-released of their salaries by the Accountant-General, Mr. Fredrick Ajibokun. The union leaders, led by the Chairmen of the Joint Negotiating Council and the Trade Union Congress in the state, Mr. Sunday Adeleye and Mr. Soladoye Ekundayo , converged at the entrance of the AG’s office, chanting various solidarity songs. They insisted that the AG would not go out of the office until he gave approval for the payment of their money. They also alleged that the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Yele Ogundipe, have ordered the AG to pay the workers before Christmas but Ajibokun allegedly refused. Speaking on the protest, Adeleye explained that the union leaders recently met the governor who assured them that workers would be paid a month salary to have money for the Christmas celebration. He also alleged the AG deliberately wanted to delay the payment for no reason as he (AG) would be retiring on Friday, saying if he left the office on Thursday, the workers might not get their salaries until January. He explained “About four days ago, we met with the governor and the commissioner for finance who directed the AG to pay the workers salaries so that everybody can go home with something for the Christmas.

A different kind of Christmas
Bright lights! Gift boxes! Hampers filled with plenty of goodies! New clothes and shoes! The well-decorated Christmas trees, and not forgetting the parties! The paraphernalia and pomp and pageantry that were unmissable indicators of the Christmas season once upon a time. Christmas is here once again, and I don’t know if I’m the only one who has observed it, but it really doesn’t feel like it. In the last couple of years, the usual celebrations that accompanied the Yuletide season have seemed forced; a trite attempt at making things happen instead of the fluidity and ease of merrymaking which naturally come with festive periods.

My wife used new car to sow seed for her pastor – Husband
In spite of a passionate plea by a
housewife to the court to save her 18-year-old marriage, an Agege
Customary Court in Lagos granted the prayers of her 50-year-old husband
and businessman, Kingsley Onyenobi, and severed the relationship.
The estranged husband said he bought a
brand new car for her only for her to give out the car to her church
pastor on the pretext of “sowing seed”.
The court ruled that allegations of
infidelity and threat to life brought against the woman by the husband
were weighty enough to warrant the dissolution of the marriage.
