Mrs Pamela Latunji-Bello, the Chief Executive Officer,
Spectrum Beauty Academy, Lagos, on Saturday called
on the government to make vocational skills
acquisition compulsory under the National Youth
Service Corps (NYSC).
Latunji-Bello told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
that vocational training would equip young
graduates to be self- employed instead of
depending on elusive white-collar jobs.
“If the Federal Government should use part of the
money paid to NYSC members in training them in
the various vocations, it will go a long way in
reducing unemployment in the country.
“Skills acquisition should be mandatory for NYSC
members during the one year service; they must
learn a trade or the other and use their monthly
stipends as training fee.
“Because the vocations are where the money
is,’’she said.
The entrepreneur stressed the need for compulsory
capacity building for NYSC members
“The future of Nigeria lies in the skills of its
workforce.
“If we do not train them, we are just giving money
to people who will probably misuse it.’’
Latunji-Bello urged the nation’s policy makers to
place more emphasis skills acquisition at all levels
of the nation’s educational system.
“Let people stop seeing it as the pet project of
wives of state governors that should be done at
their spare time.
“It should be re-integrated into the school
curriculum, every university should give it a push.
“Every Nigerian graduate should start thinking of
having another profession or career,’’ she said.

‘Filipino Flash’ Donaire demolishes Settoul in two rounds
Former five-division world champion Nonito Donaire of
the Philippines showed he was back to his very best
with a sensational second-round stoppage of France’s
Anthony Settoul in Macau on Saturday.
The 2012 Fighter of the Year improved his record to
35 wins and three defeats (23 KOs) and is now in
line for another world title crack, probably for the
WBA super bantamweight belt against Britain’s
Scott Quigg in Dubai later this year.
The classy and powerful “Filipino Flash” soon had
the Frenchman (20-4, 8 KOs) in trouble in the
opening round of their scheduled 10-round super
bantamweight fight with stunning body shots that
twice dropped him to his knees.
In the second round more telling punches to the
diaphragm were followed with a bone-shaking right
cross to the chin that put Settoul down once more.
Although he bravely managed to just beat the count
he was visibly unsteady on his feet, staggering
backwards across the ring as his corner threw in
the towel to save him from further punishment with
1min 41sec gone in the second.
“We worked really hard for this fight and I did
everything I needed to do,” said a barely sweating
Donaire afterwards.
“I wanted to set him up with the body shots and
finish it from there.”
Two other fighters had very easy nights as their
opponents quit in confusing and slightly
unsatisfactory fashion.
American-based Russian Denis Shafikov enjoyed an
easy win when his Indonesian lightweight opponent
Roy Mukhlis decided he no longer wanted to
continue halfway through the third round.
Former US Olympian Jose Ramirez had a facile win
after also travelling halfway around the world to the
southern Chinese city when his Japanese opponent
Ryusei Yoshida quit on his stool at the start of the
fourth round.
Ramirez (15-0, 12 KOs) was awarded a technical
knockout in an anti-climactic end to the junior
welterweight contest after catching Yoshida with
several heavy shots towards the end of the third
round.
Chinese fight fans earlier had plenty to be delighted
about at Cotai Arena.
There was a stirring display by local favourite
“Macau Kid” Kuok Kun Ng who knocked out
awkward southpaw Phompetch Twins Gym two
minutes into the fourth round of their welterweight
contest.
“KK” as he is known took his record to 8-0 (4 KOs)
when he landed a peach of a right uppercut on the
Thai southpaw who was out even before he hit the
canvas.
And the super flyweight “Wonder Kid” Rex Tso from
nearby Hong Kong continued his march towards a
world title shot by taking his record to 17-0 (10
KOs) with a fourth-round stoppage of Thailand’s
Khunkhiri Wor Wisaruth.
It appeared the referee may have stepped in a little
early to save Wisaruth (21-12-1, 14 KOs) from
further punishment, but the heavy-punching Tso
was dominating the fight and the outcome was
inevitable.
Arsenal trounce Everton in Asia Trophy final
Playing his first game for Arsenal following his
transfer from Chelsea last month, goalkeeper Petr
Cech was called into action after eight minutes to
smother Gerard Deulofeu’s dangerous cut-back
from the right by-line.
However, the Gunners dominated possession and
they took the lead in the 22nd minute when Cazorla
chipped the ball forward from the centre-circle for
Walcott who beat goalkeeper Joe Robless in a race
for the ball and fired home from the edge of the
Everton box.
Everton had the ball in the net in the 41st minute
when Arouna Kone’s shot was deflected in after
Cech had tipped a Steven Naismith header against
the crossbar but the offside flag had already gone
up.
Cech made a fine save to turn away an angled drive
by Luke Garbutt early in the second half but Arsenal
then turned up the pressure with Walcott shooting
narrowly wide and Robless making good saves to
deny Cazorla and Hector Bellerin.
But the Arsenal pressure finally told in the 58th
minute when Cazorla received the ball from Ozil on
the right of the Everton box and cut inside before
firing a low shot past Robless at his near post.
Kone missed a glorious opportunity to cut the deficit
when he headed over an inviting cross by Phil
Jagielka on the hour and Arsenal took full advantage
of the let-off as Ozil played a one-two with Cazorla
before bursting into the box to fire past Robless.
Barkley got a consolation goal for Everton with 15
minutes left, firing a rasping left-footed drive past
Cech from 20 metres after the Arsenal defence had
been caught in possession in their own half.
Despite the defeat, Everton manager Roberto
Martinez was pleased with the benefits that his side
had gained from taking part in the competition.
“In pre-season, you don’t get many opportunities to
get a competitive game like that against the quality
of Arsenal and from that point of view, it was a great
workout,” said the Spaniard.
“Obviously we wanted to win and probably it
showed that we are in pre-season because the
lapses of concentration were very poor by our
standard. But all in all, I thought it was the perfect
way to stretch the squad and test it, and I think that
the benefits from this tournament will be immense.
Stoke City had earlier secured third place in the
competition after goals in either half by Steve
Sidwell and Marko Arnautovic gave them a 2-0 win
over a Singapore Select XI.
Man City captain Kompany hails Sterling arrival
Captain Vincent Kompany has hailed the signing of
Raheem Sterling as “massive” for Manchester City as
the club chases more trophies, saying his
fearlessness sets him aside from his peers.
The 20-year-old Sterling became the most
expensive English footballer in history earlier this
week when he signed from Liverpool on a five-year
contract worth an initial £44 million that could rise to
£49 million ($76 million, 68 million euro).
He almost immediately got on a plane to hook up
with his new team-mates in Australia, where City
play a friendly on the Gold Coast on Saturday ahead
of matches against Real Madrid and AS Roma in
Melbourne.
“It’s massive for us — the biggest thing is that
you’ve seen Sterling, especially the way he played
the season before last, and he was one of the main
reasons, along with (Luis) Suarez, that Liverpool
played so well,” Kompany said on the club website.
At Last, South Africa Returns $15 Million Cash For Arms Purchase Seized From Nigeria
The South African border authorities had on September 5, 2014 seized $9.3 million meant for the procurement of arms for the Nigerian military, from two Nigerians and an Israeli who arrived the country in a private jet.
Custom officers discovered the money stashed in three suitcases after the suitcases were put through airport scanners.
The money was concealed in two black plastic suitcases, filled with 90 blocks each containing US$100,000 in notes.
The NPA said it found with the suspects, an invoice for a helicopter and armaments meant for Nigeria.
While the furore created by the cash seizure was yet to settle, South African authorities again seized another $5.7 million transferred by Societe D’Equipments Internationale of Nigeria, to South African arms company, Cerberus Risk Solutions, for the procurement of arms.
Although the Nigerian government through the office of the then National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, admitted that the money belonged to the Nigerian government, the South African government said it would not release the funds until after “due process” was followed.
The South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Lulu Mnguni, had said although his country had no intention of keeping the seized funds, it would only release it to Nigeria after due process had been followed.
On Friday, PR Nigeria, the consulting firm issuing statements on behalf of Nigerian security agencies said the money has finally been released.
It said the money was released as a result of some legal and diplomatic processes initiated by the former NSA which “ensured that cash seized by the South African government during the cash for arms saga last year have been fully recovered by Nigeria”.
PR Nigeria also added that “President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration was forced to resort to the alternative market to obtain arms when western powers blocked every access to the formal arms market but the cash were seized both at the airport and in the bank”.
Meanwhile PR Nigeria confirmed the release of Mr. Sambo by the SSS after more than 24 hours siege of his home.
It also said Mr. Sambo was released only after the SSS seized his international passports and other vital documents.
“Even though there is no more restriction of his movement, Dasuki still feels aggrieved that he was deprived of performing his religious obligation of attending the Eid Prayers, making the end of Ramadan fasting.
“Dasuki has vowed to challenge the action by seeking legal redress in order to enforce his fundamental human rights,” the release said.

Don’t Be Desperate! 7 Things To Avoid When Texting Your Crush
By not acting desperate, you may actually get to date your crush… which is the ultimate goal for you right?
Alicia Fanning of All Women Stalk lists 7 habits to avoid when texting your crush:
Blowing up his phone: Okay, girlies, I know this is very tempting! After all, you think he’s just amazing and you want to talk to him all the #time. I get it. But you don’t want to constantly blow up his phone. As difficult as it is, you need to give him some space. Show your interest but don’t let it go overboard.
http://www.naijaloaded.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/man_smiling_texting.jpg
Texting at the wrong time: If you know your #crush has plans then hold your texts. Even if he loves talking to you and may be interested in you as his potential GF, there are just times it’s better not to text. If he’s having dinner with his family or hanging with the guys, respect that he’s busy and hold your texts till later. Get busy doing something of your own while you’re waiting for him to be free to talk. Use this time to hang out with your friends, work out or do whatever makes you happy while you’ve got the free #time.
Texting him first all the time: We’re modern #women. We know it’s okay for us to text a #guy first. But, you don’t want to text him first all the #time. You can but if you do then you’re cheat*ng yourself a #little bit. You want to give him the opportunity to miss you and then shoot you a text.
Pressuring him into dating: Girls, you don’t want to ever pressure a #crush into dating you even if you think he’s the greatest guy in the entire world. Relationships that start like that often end badly. Instead, make it your goal to be friendly and #flirty. Let him know you’re single but don’t push #things. If he’s interested then he’ll let you know so have no worries about that issue.
Trying to make him jealous: This trick could backfire, especially if his interest is still minimal toward you. Yes, it’s sort of cute when you see that a #guy is a tiny bit jealous but it’s not worth the risk to try to cause that. You want to build his interest in you. Trying to make him jealous could push him away. He might even think that he’s infringing on another guy’s territory and back away.
Pushing for more: Here’s a little secret, ladies. Guys don’t like clingy girls, but they love confident girls. And you have every right to be confident in your #beautiful self! You can show your interest in him without resorting to doing things like begging him to text you or other clingy actions. You won’t have to do those #things if he’s interested and if he’s not then move on to the next cutie!
Texting things you’d be embarra$$ed about if other people saw: This is always a good rule to follow in any kind of technology. Never text, say or post anything that you’d be embarra$$ed if other #people saw. Even if the chances are slim, there’s still a #chance. Keep it clean and you’ll have no regrets. The #girl you are is enough to win a guy’s heart without sending texts you don’t want anyone to know about.

Arsenal Ready To Drop £40million Bid For Benzema
New reports have it that Arsenal FC are ready to table a whooping £40million before Real Madrid in signing 27-year-old Karim Benzema… Especially because of the departures of Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo (to Ajax on loan).
According to Spanish journalist, Paco Gonzalez, Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, called up Benzema, whom he has firmly admired a few times this summer, to discuss a possible move to the Emirates.
Although both Benzema, who had recently signed a contract extension with Madrid, which expires in 2019 and Madrid are not keen on the transfer, he might be forced to move eventually, with new manager Rafa Benitez looking to give Cristiano Ronaldo a more central attacking berth.
Asernal fans… You like him?
