President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday,
called for better cooperation between the executive arm of government
and the legislature.
This, he said, was needed to ensure smooth implementation of his government’s policies and programmes.
Buhari made the call in his goodwill message to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on his 54th birthday.
According to a statement by his Senior
Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President
said despite the principle of separation of powers, both arms of
government should be united in the promotion of the common good of the
people.
He stated that whatever differences that
might occasionally arise between the two arms of government should not
be allowed to compromise “their common goals of promoting the greater
progress and development of Nigeria.”
Buhari paid glowing tribute to Saraki,
who he described as “one of the most influential politicians of our
time, who has made tremendous impact on the country.”
He noted that the President of the
Senate had successfully kept the memory of his late father, Olusola
Saraki, alive by identifying with the grassroots in his home state,
Kwara.
